Advisory: Flooding in Urabá, Colombia - September 2018

Rains have decreased and the situation in affected areas is back to normal. In total, 316 beneficiaries were affected and three Child Development Centers were affected with minor damage and two sustained significant damage. CDCs have provided help to beneficiaries and their families. Thank you for praying for those affected by the rains and flooding.

Update #5: November 14, 2018

The rainy season continues and Child Development Centers (CDCs) continue supporting affected beneficiaries and their families. The Compassion Colombia National Office is working on providing basic needs to affected beneficiaries. So far, four CDCs and 313 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Please keep affected beneficiaries and their families in your prayers.

Update #4: October 30, 2018

Heavy rains continue in many areas of Colombia, and more beneficiaries have affected by strong winds and flooding. So far, one Child Development Center (CDC) and 251 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Please continue to pray for beneficiaries and families as they face challenges due to the continuous rains.

Update#3: October 11, 2018

Colombia continues to experience heavy rains and flooding in Urabá, as well as Medellín and Magdalena. Child Development Centers (CDCs) are implementing their emergency response plans and assessing the impact of these continued rains. So far, one CDC and 185 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Affected children and families have received support with basic supplies. The Compassion Colombia national office continues to assist additional beneficiaries who are newly affected. Please pray for the health and safety of beneficiaries in this area, as well as for improved weather, so families can begin to recover.

Update #2: October 3, 2018

Rains persist in Colombia, continuing to affect children in Compassion’s program. So far, 45 beneficiaries are affected. The Compassion Colombia national office is working with Child Development Centers (CDCs) to provide basic supplies to these families. Please pray for the children and families affected by these rains and for CDC staff working to provide assistance to the affected families.

Update #1: September 26, 2018

The humidity from recent rains in Urabá, Colombia is affecting children’s homes. Many have lost mattresses due to the floodwaters. So far, 40 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Child Development Center (CDC) staff are working to support these families. Please pray for the children in this area to remain healthy and safe.

Disaster Alert: September 19, 2018

Heavy rains caused flooding in northwest Colombia last week, especially in the area of Urabá. Strong winds damaged roofs and several roads are buried in mud. Compassion beneficiaries in this area are affected, but no details are available yet. Child Development Center (CDC) staff are visiting beneficiaries and their families to assess their needs. Please pray for the safety of our beneficiaries in this area. Compassion Colombia will keep us updated as more information becomes available.
