The beneficiaries and their families affected by flooding were assisted with disaster relief funds. Additional funds may be used to assist with house repairs. A total of 693 beneficiaries were impacted. The previous reported number was incorrect due to challenges faced during the assessment process.

Update #3: September 24, 2020
The Child Development Centers (CDCs) and Compassion Ethiopia National Office staff continue to monitor the situation and assess impact. No additional beneficiaries have been reported as impacted at this time. The National Office is providing disaster relief funds to assist affected beneficiaries and their families.

Update #2: September 8, 2020
To date, four Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 757 beneficiaries have been affected. In addition to the affected beneficiaries, 13 CDC staff have also been impacted and are living in temporary evacuation locations. Homes and household items have been damaged, as well as farmland and livelihoods destroyed.
Please pray for the affected beneficiaries, families and church partner staff as they recover from damages and losses and have to live in temporary locations.
Update #1: September 2, 2020
More heavy rainfall caused the river to overflow again and flooded the whole town. So far, 53 beneficiaries and their families have been affected. The Child Development Centers continue to assess impact and are helping the families as needs are identified.

Disaster Alert: August 31, 2020
Heavy rainfall caused the Awash River and the Beseka Lake to overflow. Flooding damaged homes and destroyed the livelihood of many people in the Metehara community. Child Development Centers (CDCs) in the area are assessing impact and determining which beneficiaries were affected. Details are not yet available. Many families are temporarily staying in shelters at three local schools. The CDCs are working to determine best way to support the affected families.
