Advisory: Fire in Butuan City, Philippines

In total, 20 beneficiaries were affected. All affected beneficiaries and their families received some support from the local government and other needed support (e.g. hot meals, clothing, etc.) from Compassion and the Child Development Center.

Disaster Alert: March 11, 2020

In early March, a fire broke out in the Barangay Ong Yiu in Butuan City in the Philippines. the fire spread very rapidly through the area. From what we know, at least 150 homes and 10 commercial enterprises were destroyed.

So far, 17 beneficiaries and their families lost their homes and belongings. They are being supported by the Child Development Center with temporary shelter, food, and other basic items. Other local organizations and government agencies are also helping the affected families. The Compassion National Office will provide more relief support and some housing materials so they can begin to rebuild their homes.
