Weather conditions have improved and the tropical depression has moved off towards northeast Asia. In total, 22 Child Development Centers and 1,167 beneficiaries were affected. Thank you for your prayers over this situation and please continue to pray for beneficiaries and their families as they recover.

Update #6: December 18, 2018

Cyclone warnings are still in effect in the eastern part of the country. Heavy to moderate showers continue in the west and central parts of the country. Child Development Centers (CDCs) in Chilaw and Batticalo are the most affected. Weather conditions are slowly improving, and there have been reports of the bad weather moving away from the island. So far, 22 CDCs and 1,167 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. CDC staff have been providing cooked food, sanitary items, funds, and dry rations. Please continue to pray for the safety of the CDC staff, beneficiaries, and their families.

Update #5: December 3, 2018

Evening thunderstorms still persist in most parts of the western coastal areas, some parts in the east, and over the hill country. One Child Development Center (CDC) was slightly damaged by a minor landslide during non-program hours. So far, 22 CDCs and 1,116 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. CDC staff members are visiting the houses of beneficiaries to assess the need for repairs and other urgent needs. Please pray for the safety of CDC staff, beneficiaries, and their families.

Update #4: November 16, 2018

Some Child Development Centers (CDCs) have limited programs due to beneficiaries sustaining damage to their houses. However, they will resume activities this week. The number of beneficiaries affected is still being counted. So far, 21 CDCs and 679 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. CDCs are supporting beneficiaries whose houses sustained damage and flooding.

Update #3: November 15, 2018

Conditions have significantly improved; however, new impact records and updates continue to come in. There are new reports of beneficiaries’ roofs being damaged. Activity at some Child Development Centers (CDCs) is limited due to bad weather conditions, but other centers have resumed activities. So far, 19 CDCs and 679 beneficiaries have been reported as affected.

Update #2: November 14, 2018

The cyclone conditions and heavy rains in Sri Lanka have eased to only light showers on the island. No additional Child Development Centers (CDCs) were impacted. So far, 16 CDCs and 666 beneficiaries have been reported as affected.

Update #1: November 13, 2018

As of recent reports, Child Development Centers and beneficiaries have been impacted during the current disaster situation. Many houses have suffered damaged roofs. The weather conditions have improved in recent days; although, more bad weather could prevail during this season. So far, 16 CDCs and 659 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. CDCs are distributing food and other relief items to affected beneficiaries and their families.
