I'd like to share a special opportunity with you — it's called Compassion Sunday. And it's a chance for our church to put our faith into action by helping kids escape poverty. Let me explain ...

Have you ever heard of Compassion International? It's a ministry dedicated to releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name. They partner with local churches around the world to provide holistic development for children in poverty. Support is provided to those churches by partnering with people like us who are willing to sponsor a child in their community.

As a current Compassion sponsor, I've seen the impact sponsorship can have on a child's life — and I'd like to invite more people into that. That's where Compassion Sunday comes in.

Every year, hundreds of churches in the U.S. participate in Compassion Sunday to speak up on behalf of children in poverty and to connect them with caring sponsors. I'd love for our church to be a part of this amazing day. Our Compassion Sunday event can be as simple as me making an announcement at the end of the service and inviting people to visit a sponsorship table. Or it can be part of a whole service about caring for the poor.

Sponsoring through Compassion has given me a tangible way to live out my faith. I love that by sponsoring, I'm connecting my child with a local church and the chance to hear the gospel. It has also inspired me to be more generous in other areas of my life. I believe more families at our church would have a similar experience if they sponsored a child.
