I Exalt in the Greatness of God

During a routine medical checkup as one of the beneficiaries at a student center in East Indonesia, Alysia Sistri was recommended for further evaluation. She was eventually diagnosed with a tumor at the base of her brain. Alysia’s parents were devastated and afraid because they were unable to afford the medical care that Alysia was going to need.

I exalt in the greatness of God

After lifesaving brain surgery, Alysia (center) plays with friends.

Siti’s heart was broken to imagine the pain and suffering of Alysia who was only nine years old. In the midst of her distress in the doctor’s office, Siti suddenly exclaimed, “May God please help my daughter!” “I cried so because I knew only God could help her”.

Alysia’s parents were devastated and afraid because they were unable to afford the medical care that Alysia was going to need. Because Alysia is a beneficiary at a student center, the project leader submitted a CIV (Complementary Intervention) proposal to Compassion East Indonesia asking for help to cover the costs of the surgery Alysia needed to survive.

In August 2013, with this financial support, Alysia underwent a complicated surgery to remove the tumor. Since then, Alysia’s recovery has been miraculous and the little girl who dreams of being a doctor is back home and happy to be playing again with her friends.

Alysia and her parents are grateful for everyone who has helped to provide funding through the CIV proposal. “We have never met or seen the faces of the donors but we want to say a big thanks! We always pray for them and may God bless their families,” Yulius said.

Through Alysia’s experience, the family has a better understanding of the true meaning of faith. They have become real examples for people around them as their case is an affirmation of God’s power to do miracles.
