Many disasters have affected Compassion children throughout this last year, including hurricanes in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico; a typhoon in the Philippines; flooding in Burkina Faso and Thailand; and volcanic eruptions in East Indonesia, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Your gifts to Compassion's Disaster Relief Initiative have enabled the provision of immediate and on-going relief. THANK YOU for making this possible. In each case, Compassion’s local church partners have been able to respond immediately bringing emergency relief to affected children, including:
- Temporary Shelter
- Basic Sanitation
- Cooking utensils
- Emergency Clothing
- Preventative Health Services
Compassion staff also set up temporary meeting areas stocked with items like crayons, paper and stuffed animals. These “child areas” serve as a safe place for Compassion’s children and their siblings during the aftermath of a disaster. Here they find comfort in activities as well as support and encouragement from project staff. Compassion’s crisis response plan also ensures that children receive ongoing support as needed including food and water, personal items, trauma counseling, medical attention and funeral expenses.
Flor, a mother of twins in the Philippines, recently shared her experience following the typhoon, saying, “I learned that the church is always open for us. Thank you so much for helping my children.”
