Dear God . . . Why do people get drunk? I get scared.
Lidia, it is scary to be around someone who's drunk. I don't know the answer, little friend, but you shouldn't be put in danger! This is Wess Stafford, President of Compassion International. At least 7 million American children have alcoholic parents. It puts them at greater risk for emotional problems, and for physical, emotional and sexual abuse. And sadly, children often blame themselves as the cause for their mother or father's drinking. Children keep these family secrets. If you're a teacher or a coach watch for the signs: failure in school, truancy, a lack of friends and withdrawal from classmates. Delinquent behavior and drug or alcohol abuse are also signs. Be informed. Be on watch for a child at risk! This is Wess Stafford. Speak up with compassion for a child in need!
