Dear God . . . Why do I feel afraid all the time?
I so understand, my young friend. As a child in Africa, I was afraid, too. But God took care of me even when I wasn't sure. And He will do the same for you. This is Wess Stafford, President of Compassion International. Never discount the fears of a child! A friend told me of a radical change in the behavior of her teenage granddaughter — affecting her once-excellent grades. One day the girl blurted out: "Things aren't what you think at home." Children often give signals, but are unable to articulate their fears. Be alert, informed — ready to encourage a child's trust. Then, respond in love and care. Sometimes fear goes away just by being able to talk about it. This is Wess Stafford. Speak up with compassion — and listen to the children in your world!
