AIDS, famine, floods and wars — all leave their devastating effects on children. In this country, drugs and violence target our youth. But there is hope. For example, in Long Beach, California, a volunteer group is reaching out to skid-row children. They started out building a basketball court for teens but soon realized they could do much more. They pitched in to beautify an otherwise ugly shelter. A can of paint and some elbow grease. Little things that say "you matter" to a child. This is Wess Stafford.
