What was your family life like? I was born into a middle-class Christian family and grew up in Avadi. Both my parents are believers, and I am the only son. My father works as a security guard, earning about 4,500 rupees [US $81]. My mother is a homemaker. I live with my parents and it takes two hours to commute to the university.
Describe your childhood community environment: My neighborhood was full of middle-class people. There were many schools nearby. I would help the elderly people near my home and whoever else needed help. I had many friends and would involve myself in many activities with them.
What are some of your personal interests and passions? I am interested in engineering. This idea sprung up when I was quite young. I really want to discover something new. My other interests include coin and stamp collecting. My passion is to learn music and dance. I am the sports leader at my college. This year we have conducted a sports day for the second year.
What is your vision for your time in the Leadership Development Program? My vision is to become a biotechnologist. I need support from the Leadership Development Program to make my wishes come true. The program is helping me to improve my skills so I can achieve more in life.
Tell us about your spiritual, physical and academic goals for the next few years: I want to understand God’s grace and mercy in a deeper way. I want to read the Bible regularly and be an example for my classmates in all that I do. I want to build my strength and improve my appearance. I will do exercise regularly to keep myself fit and go to the gym. I want to succeed and achieve higher grades. I have decided to become more fluent in English in order to communicate with others better on my teams and during projects. This will allow me to have a bright future.
Is there anything else you want to share? I would like to serve in all stages of life, without any obstacles.
How did you come to accept Christ as your personal Savior? I accepted Christ at the age of 10, through my family prayers and from what I learned about the Lord at the Compassion child development center. All of this helped me to understand the love of Christ in a fuller way. My family members and I believe in Christ Jesus. Whatever we do will be done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
What is God teaching you right now? God has been teaching me the way of success. I know that our Father in heaven will not cast me down. Moreover, in times of trouble and whenever I am in fear, God will help me to be courageous. I have grown spiritually by reading the Bible and praying for those who are sick.
Describe the impact Compassion has had on your personal and spiritual development: God has been helping me in so many ways and one of them is through Compassion. They have made me a better person and have helped me cross many hurdles. I can say that Compassion is one of God’s gifts to me. Through the LDP program, I have learned about time management. Time management is very useful for me, and now I prioritize my work based on my time limits. I have established an outreach ministry along with other care group members. I have told my friends at college about God.
How are you currently serving in your local church? I serve in the church in many different ways, wherever help is needed. I clean the church hall before and after the services and I arrange the chairs.
Who has had the most influence on your life and why? My father, because he has helped me to understand life. He taught me to live a prosperous life in God. I thank God for giving me such a wonderful father.
What challenges do you think you will face during your university experience? I enrolled in January 2011. The food at the college canteen does not taste good to eat. After complaints were made, the food became better. If any challenges or obstacles occur in my life, I hope by the grace of almighty God I will be able to face them bravely and not turn back.
What are some of the problems in your community? The worst problems are the need for clean drinking water and the bad smell of the garbage. There is no covered drainage system. Often insects occupy our house, because it is near the railway track.
How do you plan to use your degree and leadership skills to address the problems in your community and advance the kingdom of God? I will help society in times of need. I will be positive and bring others to Christ. I will try to influence people in the community to change their ways of thinking and keep their surroundings clean and hygienic. I will serve God as long as I live.
