What was your family life like? I have a younger brother named Leonardo. He is 12 years old and we get along very well together. He also goes to the Compassion child development center, and that makes my mom very happy. My mom´s name is Vitalina del Rosario. She is married to my dad, whose name is Isaias. They both have been excellent parents. They are bakers. My mom also sews. After getting married they bought a house in San Isidro, where I have lived my whole life. My mom is a Christian woman. We both go to church.
Describe your childhood community environment: I studied in Canton San Isidro School from first to ninth grades. I enjoyed my childhood at the child development center, where I learned from the many workshops on activities such as music, typing, computers and poultry farming. I had many friends there and we also went to church together and that made me very happy. There are several ministries at church, especially Sunday school, and I enjoy my time there as I learn so much about God.
What are some of your personal interests and passions? My biggest passion is music, especially singing. I am taking voice classes at Canzion on a partial scholarship. I love to read, especially my Bible. I love basketball. I also love to practice public speaking.
What is your vision for your time in the Leadership Development Program? My vision is to be a good example for others and prepare myself in the intellectual and spiritual fields. As a leader, I want to plan programs to help my church, community and family.
Tell us about your spiritual, physical and academic goals for the next few years: My spiritual goals are to be a person who reads the Bible and puts its values into practice, to be a good example, and to follow Jesus. My physical goals are to be in good health and do exercise. I also want to eat healthy food and get all my medical exams and vaccinations on time. My academic goals are to acquire a lot of knowledge from my subjects, develop my intellect, and work well. I also want to be sociable, start good relationships with others, and be open-minded to listen to others' points of view.
Is there anything else you want to share? I aspire to be a humble and obedient servant of God who knows Bible principles and has the academic knowledge to be a leader, one who will impact others' lives with my testimony.
How did you come to accept Christ as your personal Savior? It happened during a service at the Baptist church when I was 8 years old. God touched my heart and I felt the call and the need to receive Christ as the Savior of my life. It was then I accepted Christ.
What is God teaching you right now? God is teaching me to persevere and believe in what He has for me, and to trust in Him, for He is with us. I had a bad infection in my throat and was in bed because of it; I also had bad headaches, but God worked a miracle and I was healed.
Describe the impact Compassion has had on your personal and spiritual development: I was a restless child when I started to go to the child development center and it was difficult for them to keep an eye on me. But God used my tutor and she had enough patience and kept the hope that God would change my life, and He did. Now I am a calm youth and I am grateful to God.
How are you currently serving in your local church? I am in the music ministry and I lead the worship time at church. I also help with the Sunday school class.
Who has had the most influence on your life and why? My mom. She is determined and persevering. She is a strong believer and, thanks to her faith in God, she has been healed from diseases such as breast cancer and ovarian cysts. She has overcome diseases such as asthma because of her faith.
What challenges do you think you will face during your university experience? The classes I am going to take will be challenging. My other challenges are to be a good example; to treat everyone well, regardless of their character; to be a leader; to deal with different ways of thinking; and to perform excellently.
What are some of the problems in your community? Lack of clean water and food, poverty, delinquency, social inequality, lack of housing, and areas at risk.
How do you plan to use your degree and leadership skills to address the problems in your community and advance the kingdom of God? I would like to start a business and an organization to coordinate with big companies to bring help to people. I plan to create bonds between companies and organizations, so they can provide food or clean water systems. I will be a channel of blessing for people in extreme poverty. I will also be a leader in my church and use my knowledge to help the church grow.
