Explain why you chose your course of study: I chose communication arts as my course of study because I want to harness the skills that God gave to me. As we all know, communication is very essential nowadays, and I know that in this field I can easily spread the Word of God to all.
How did you come to accept Christ as your personal Savior? I was born into a Christian family, since my late grandfather was a pastor. I thought that I was saved, since my parents are Christians. I also thought that in attending Sunday school and reading the Bible I can be saved. But I was proven wrong. It was when I was 9 years old that I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior through vacation Bible school. It happened when the good news - that Christ died for us, to save us from our sins - was shared in our class. I was teary-eyed that day, trying to imagine the hardship He had gone through just to save me. Then I felt that someone was talking to me, someone who knocks at my heart. I realized that I was a sinner and I need Him, so I wholeheartedly accepted Him as my personal Lord and Savior that day.
Who has had the most influence on your life and why? My parents, because they are the ones who helped, shaped and molded me. They teach me everything that I should know. They were my guides when I was still younger and innocent. Lastly, I look up to them not because they are my parents, but because they are good role models for me.
How has God used Compassion to form who you are today? Compassion has helped me a lot. Compassion is one of those who helped to shape and mold me to be a better, God-oriented person. Its ministries helped me grow emotionally and become spiritually mature. I am helped through Compassion in every challenge that strikes me. Lastly, Compassion serves as my stepping stone to achieve my goals in life. That's why I am very thankful to God for this ministry.
What was your family life like? My family is contented and happy with what we have. We are very thankful for the blessings that we receive. We can overcome trials and endeavors that we face because we are united; we face challenges as one body. I have four sisters, namely Abby Rose (21 years old), Aireen Roda (19), Apple Rhazel (14) and Anjellie Rhein (9). I am the only son in the family and I am in the middle of those four girls. Sometimes we have some fights, but we easily make up. I grew up in a Christian family. Our house is not really ours; we are renting it. My mother is a caseworker in our church's Compassion center and my father has no job as of now. Our mother's job is our only source of income for now.
Describe the environment where you grew up: The community where I grew up is nice. Although we live in a congested area, we have neighbors who are really nice and helpful and we have a happy community. We have activities that really help each one of us to mingle and get to know our neighbors. We have parties during special occasions. My high school alma mater is very nice. We had several activities that helped us grow socially and spiritually. Our school has an activity called God-centered Week, where we have activities aimed to help students to be God-oriented people.
What are some of your favorite activities? I enjoy playing board games and mind games and reading books.
How are you currently serving in your local church or community? I am serving as a Sunday school teacher for children 10-13 years old. I am a youth leader and a member of the public relations committee of our local church. I am also a leader of discipleship here in FRENDZ child development center.
Tell us some of your strengths or special achievements: My strengths are leading a group, being optimistic (because I am relying on Philippians 4:13), and being creative. In school I received a leadership award and was cited as a model for character excellence. I was also cited as an outstanding English-speaking facilitator.
How do you hope to use your future career and leadership skills to be a servant leader and help your community, church and country?
Spiritual: Share the gospel with five of my classmates.
Physical: Gain five pounds by eating healthy and doing physical exercise.
Academic: Get grades no lower than 3.0, so I will study hard and be diligent.
Social/Emotional: Gain at least 30 more friends during my first year in the university.
Servant Leadership: Lead three friends to become followers of Christ.
Tell us about your goals for next year: I pray that God will continue to help us in our everyday routine; for good health for every one of us, so there will be no medical expense; for guidance in our studies and work; and for provision for our daily needs. I also pray that my father will have a stable and good job soon.
Do you have a prayer request? I pray that God will continue to help us in our everyday routine: for good health for every one of us, so there will be no medical expense: for guidance in our studies and work: and for provision for our daily needs. I also pray that my father will have a stable and good job soon.
