Advisory: Heavy Rains in the Philippines

Advisory: Heavy Rains in the Philippines

  |   Posted: January 13, 2011

Heavy rains in Samar have affected Compassion-assisted child development centers and Compassion-assisted children.

Homes of Compassion-assisted children were destroyed because of flash floods, and a brother of a sponsored child was killed.

Official statistics state that at least 40 people have died from flooding or landslides.

Fishing and farming are the only sources of income for most of the fathers of the sponsored children. Fishermen were not able to catch fish because of the rough sea condition and the farmers were hindered from going to their farms due to the floodwaters.

The flooding has also resulted in rats infesting the crops, and plants and trees being toppled.

Affected Compassion-assisted children and families are being aided by the implementing church partners.

Please pray for an end to the rain. Pray for the Lord to provide a source of income for the fathers who are fishermen and farmers.

Compassion Philippines will keep us updated as more information is available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
