Ghana has a population of more than 21 million in a region roughly the size of Oregon. As the first African country to obtain its independence from Britain, Ghana is a land of rich, though often mismanaged, resources. More than 45 percent of Ghanaians live on less than U.S.$1 a day, and children are the most vulnerable victims of that poverty.
