Then and Now - Philippines

In 1997, Compassion initiated "It Works," a pilot project to document the progress of Compassion children in the countries where we work. We began in several countries, including the Philippines, to interview and photograph children and their families. Our goal was to obtain overviews of the children's current situations and return in five to seven years to follow up. Here are some of photos and the story of Evelyn Fortu — both then and now:

Evelyn Fortu

Because of Compassion's assistance, Evelyn's mom feels their lives have improved and her daughter "has become a lady and grown spiritually." Their same home is slightly larger, the family has two more children and the father's employment is a bit more stable.

Evelyn likes to play chess and has won several matches. Her favorite subject in school is math and her desire is to be a teacher. She knows it's important to have a good education "because if you don't know anything, you will never have a good future."
