Global Food Crisis

In 1997, Compassion initiated "It Works," a pilot project to document the progress of Compassion children in the countries where we work. We began in several countries, including Bolivia, to interview and photograph children and their families. Our goal was to obtain overviews of the children's current situations and return in five to seven years to follow up. Here are some of photos and the story of Ines Murga — both then and now:

THEN
Ines Murga, Bolivia

In 1997, Ines Murga had been in Compassion's program five years. Her family lived in a small mud house on Bolivia's Altiplano.

Her parents were poor farmers who never learned to read, so Ines often read the Bible aloud to them.

Seventeen-year-old Ines will finish high school soon. Her gentle personality is a positive influence on everyone she knows.
