Ecuador

Ecuador is a country of contrasts. The Andean mountains blend with the dense rainforest, and tourism blends with poverty.  Most parents in Ecuador cannot support their families, as more than half of Ecuador's poor live on $1 a day. Many children drop out of school and nearly a half-million children between the ages of 5 and 17 have jobs. About 15 percent of children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition.

Denise Jones with sponsored child

As Denise Jones of Point of Grace beams over the report card her sponsored child, Saymi, shows her, the artist realizes the positive effect child sponsorship has made in this little one's life. "While we were in Ecuador, we were able to see how Compassion helps families from the very beginning," says Denise. "Compassion is truly helping children like Saymi grow up to be leaders in their communities." Read more about Point of Grace's experiences in Ecuador.
