Compassion's AIDS Initiative is focused on Africa. Yet HIV and AIDS are also significant threats to children outside of Africa and for that reason Compassion is also conducting HIV/AIDS work in non-African countries.
"Compassion empowered us to address the children's needs in a holistic manner," says Pastor Elijah Kisakye. "It is always my joy when I see that some of the children who looked hopeless are now making a positive contribution to the community."
Fidel rides the bus past the sugarcane fields on his way to college. As he sees workers toiling in the fields, as he did as a child, he is reminded of what life could have held. And he is determined to rescue others from that future.
