After growing up in poverty-stricken Colombia, Jennifer had seen her entire life changed at the Compassion project. However, there was still one more thing she wanted to accomplish – college. She knew getting a college degree would open doors for her that nobody in her family had ever dreamed of, but she also understood that it would take a miracle for her to pay university fees. Jennifer's miracle came in the form of Compassion's Leadership Development Program (LDP), and through LDP, Jennifer is studying to be a doctor while attending college.
About 13 percent of Ethiopia's 46 million children have lost one or both parents, according to the United Nations. The country staggers under the weight of caring for the nearly 5 million orphaned children who wander its streets, flood its labor market, and appeal to its officials for food. But Dagim Fanta has been spared this life of homelessness, child labor and hunger—thanks to the care of his grandparents and help from Compassion sponsors.
