Since the powerful earthquake rocked Indonesia early Saturday morning (May 27), killing and injuring thousands of people and destroying many houses, Compassion Indonesia has begun administering aid. Eleven (11) of Compassion's projects were affected by the earthquake, with three being severely affected. Please see the list below for specific project numbers.
The affected projects have temporarily halted activities and one project in Klaten is currently serving as a public shelter. Many of the Compassion-assisted children's homes have been destroyed and the children and their families have had to relocate to local shelters. Project staff are working with the local churches to distribute relief supplies and medical assistance.
Compassion Indonesia has formed a Crisis Center in Solo to help coordinate relief efforts and distribute aid in Yogyakarta, close to the earthquake's epicenter. This Crisis Center will serve as a primary source of information for affected children and their families.
To date, the following projects have been affected by the earthquake:
IO-741
IO-743
IO-744
IO-746
IO-774
IO-776
IO-777
IO-841
IO-843
IO-848
IO-849
Three children in project IO-746 have died and their sponsors are being contacted.
Compassion Indonesia will provide additional information as it becomes available.
Please continue to pray for God's peace and provision for Compassion's children and staff in Indonesia as they recover from another natural disaster.
Give to the Indonesia Earthquake Response Fund.
