Bubonic plague inoculations have been given to all children, staff and families in Nueva Vida Student Center (EC-449). Homes were fumigated, and children attending program activities continue to be closely observed for any symptoms of the disease.

Staff, families and children in Compassion child development centers are taking protective measures to defend against the dengue fever epidemic. No center activities have been interrupted at this time.

Intense rains fueled by La Niña continue to affect areas of Santa Cruz and Beni. The infrastructure in these areas is damaged and travel and communication are disrupted.

Outcome: Volcano in Ecuador 
February 29, 2008

The Tungurahua Volcano activity has decreased significantly, and Compassion Ecuador has suspended its emergency warning for the Chimborazo Province. Life in the province has returned to normal.

The heavy rains plaguing the northwestern region of Peru have damaged the homes of several Compassion-assisted children.

Houses in flames

The houses engulfed in flames are just inches away from the Mathare North Church Child Development Center. The widespread violence that occurred after Kenya's presidential elections affected thousands of Compassion-assisted children.
