A recent landslide on one of the hills near La Paz, Bolivia, has caused a great amount of destruction.
Some homes were destroyed in the landslide, and many other homes will have to be demolished for safety. As a result, approximately 600 people and more than 100 homes have been affected.
The government has determined that homes in at least 20 areas are vulnerable and must be evacuated for the next 10 to 15 days.
The mayor's office evacuated these areas, and determined that the landslide occurred because of a cesspit.
Those who were evacuated are living in tents provided by the government and other organizations, although most will be being relocated again to safer areas. Some of the families will go to other communities to stay with relatives.
Children from two Compassion-assisted child development centers have been affected.
The affected child development centers are providing food, clean water and supplies for families and others in the community.
Please pray for the Lord's protection over the children and their families. Pray that those dispersed will have their homes restored soon.
Compassion Bolivia will keep us updated as more information is available.
Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
