UPDATE: Nov. 17, 2009 – More than 200 people died and over 13,000 people lost homes or possessions from the heavy rains and flooding following Hurricane Ida.
No Compassion-assisted children or families have died, although many have lost homes and belongings.
Church partners are currently providing relief to more than 250 Compassion-assisted children from 30 child development centers.
Please pray for those families who have been affected by the flooding. Ask God to protect them and provide for their needs. Also pray for wisdom for Compassion staff members and government leaders as they respond to the situation.

UPDATE: Nov. 11, 2009 – The heavy rains that caused flooding in El Salvador following Hurricane Ida have stopped.
As a result of the flooding, many buildings and bridges in the central region of El Salvador were destroyed or damaged.
Over 13,000 people are living in emergency shelters, and more than 100 people have died.
No Compassion-assisted children have died although many have lost homes and belongings.
Church staff from affected church partners are still visiting families and assessing the damage.
Compassion El Salvador has already provided money to affected church partners for immediate relief.
Nov. 9, 2009 - This past weekend, heavy rains from Hurricane Ida caused flooding and mudslides. As a result, more than 100 people have been killed.
The following areas are the most affected:
- San Salvador
- Cuscatlan
- San Vicente (in the central part of the country)
Compassion has many church partners in the flooded region, and Compassion El Salvador staff are traveling to affected centers to assess the damage.
As of now, children from at least 20 child development centers have been affected.
