Advisory: Heavy Rains in Mexico
Print  Send this to a friend

UPDATE: July 10, 2008

  • The heavy rains that hit southeastern Mexico at the beginning of June have stopped.
  • The homes of children at three child development centers were temporarily affected.
  • Most of the affected families have returned home with just a few remaining with relatives or neighbors until their homes can be strengthened.
  • Compassion Mexico is distributing supplies and assistance as and where needed.

Praise God for protecting all Compassion-assisted children and their families during the heavy rains.

Please pray for those who have to rebuild or reinforce their homes. Also pray that the seasonal crops will not be affected.

Compassion Mexico will provide updates as information becomes available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.

June 13, 2008 - Several tropical storms have battered the southeastern area of Mexico, producing heavy rains and damaging the homes of Compassion-assisted children in multiple child development centers.

Tropical depression Arthur was the first storm that made landfall earlier this month. Since then, powerful rains have continued in the states of Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco and Oaxaca.

One Compassion child development center in the Juchitan area is being used as shelter, along with two schools. Communication in the area is sporadic, but it is estimated that at least ten child development centers are affected by the rains, though there is no report of serious injury.
