UPDATE: March 14, 2008 - Intense rains fueled by La Niña continue to affect areas of Santa Cruz and Beni. The infrastructure in these areas is damaged and travel and communication are disrupted.

Five Compassion-assisted families in El Torno Student Center (BO-369) lost their homes to a mudslide. The families have found shelter in the local school.

Luz y Verdad Student Center (BO-355) lost food, materials, documents and some electronic equipment.

Compassion Bolivia Partnership Facilitators are visiting the child development centers while personnel from the student centers are visiting the families. Families are being provided with food, clothes, beds, blankets and tents.

Please pray for God's provision and safety for Compassion staff, families and children in Bolivia.

Compassion Bolivia will provide updates as information becomes available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.

UPDATE: Feb. 12, 2008 - The intense rains in Bolivia have stopped, but not without inflicting damage on the homes of some Compassion-assisted children.

Aside from the home and property damages, an estimated $1.5 million in fruit crops were damaged by the flooding.

Compassion is providing aid and shelter to those affected by the flooding, while the country of Bolivia is receiving international help for the affected communities and families.

Jan. 29, 2008 - Heavy flooding in Bolivia has prompted the government to declare a state of emergency. Travel is difficult in parts of the country because landslides have damaged roads and bridges. Efforts to assess and address the situation are ongoing.

  • Nueva Jerusalem Student Center (BO-371)
  • Dios es Amor Student Center (BO-377)
  • Nazareth Student Center (BO-380)
