UPDATE: April 4, 2008 - Compassion Brazil reports that the dengue fever epidemic has spurred the government to initiate a state of emergency until July. Parents of children affected by the disease cannot go to work because of the need for medical care. Center activities have not been interrupted as children attend in long sleeves, heavy clothing, shoes and socks to protect against mosquitoes.
Please pray for the healing and protection of Compassion staff, families and children in Brazil.
Compassion Brazil is assessing all child development centers in order to provide medical attention to affected children and alleviate the effects of the disease. They will provide updates as information becomes available.
Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
March 28, 2008 - No Compassion-assisted children or church partners were affected by the intense flooding in southeastern Brazil and Rio de Janeiro last week. However, the water accumulation has contributed to a resurgence of dengue fever in the Rio region, and the Brazilian government has classified the recent outbreak as an epidemic.
