Advisory: H1N1 Virus in Nicaragua

UPDATE: June 19, 2009 – The H1N1 virus continues to spread throughout the country, with more than 150 confirmed cases. There have been no deaths.

Among the confirmed cases are four additional Compassion-assisted children and three teachers from Compassion child development centers. 

In an attempt to stop the spread of the virus, three additional Compassion centers have been closed by the Health Ministry.

Compassion Nicaragua continues to provide child development centers with information about how to prevent and treat the disease.

Please pray for children who are suspected or confirmed with being infected with the H1N1 virus. Ask God to restore them to health and to stop the spread of the disease.

Compassion Nicaragua will keep us updated as more information is available.

UPDATE: June 17, 2009 – Six additional cases of the H1N1 virus have been reported throughout the country.

Among these is another Compassion-assisted child. There is also one other Compassion child suspected to be infected.

The Compassion-assisted child development center that was closed remains closed by the Health Ministry.

Compassion Nicaragua is working to provide the centers with information about how to prevent and treat the disease.

June 16, 2009 - Nicaragua has recently confirmed more than 50 cases of the H1N1 virus throughout the country.

Of these cases, two are Compassion-assisted children. In addition, four Compassion-assisted children are suspected to also be infected.

In an attempt to help stop the spread of the disease, one Compassion child development center has been closed by the Health Ministry for one week.

Compassion Nicaragua is providing the child development centers with information about how to prevent and treat the disease.
