The Bicol Region of the Philippines was recently devastated by a series of tropical cyclones, including Typhoon Durian, which claimed an estimated 3,000 victims. Bicol is home to 11 Compassion projects, including four in the province of Albay where most of the damage occurred. Typhoon Durian struck Albay with torrential rains, followed by mudslides that buried thousands of homes and displaced more than 650 Compassion-assisted children and their families.
