Advisory: Polio Outbreak in Uganda

Nearly three years after the World Health Organization (WHO) certified Uganda as polio-free, the polio virus has reappeared.

Since this February, 209 cases of the polio virus have been reported in parts of southern Sudan and northern Uganda.

The virus is transmitted by contaminated drinking water or food.

Throughout March, Ugandan health authorities, together with the World Health Organization, conducted a nationwide campaign to vaccinate all children age 5 against polio.

Compassion's staff joined with local church partners to mobilize Compassion beneficiaries for the vaccination.

Uganda set a world record by responding within four weeks.

Please pray for the Lord's continued protection over our children, staff and families from this virus.

Compassion Uganda will keep us updated as more information is available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
