Advisory: Heavy Rains in Uganda

UPDATE: May 8, 2008 - The heavy rains that affected Victory Outreach Orwadai Child Development Center (UG-534) also damaged a few houses of children attending Soroti Child Development Center (UG-149) and D.C. Soroti Child Development Center (UG-537). Compassion Uganda is in the process of addressing the longer-term recovery needs of each of the centers.

Please pray for God's provision and protection over Compassion staff, families and children in Uganda.

Compassion Uganda will provide updates as information becomes available.

UPDATE: April 23, 2008 - Victory Outreach Orwadai Child Development Center (UG-534) is a newly established child development center. It began registering children one month ago.

Compassion Uganda has responded to the center's immediate need by providing food, mattresses and bedding to the affected families.

April 18, 2008 - Heavy rains in eastern Uganda destroyed the homes of 75 Compassion-assisted children attending Victory Outreach Orwadai Child Development Center (UG-534). Some of the children were injured as the houses collapsed. They are being treated in Soroti, the nearest town.

Partnership facilitators are traveling to Victory Outreach to assess damage and need. Some center activities have been suspended pending the assessment.
