Reports of violence involving children in Uganda rose significantly last year from 100 to more than 300. Horrifically, many cases involve ritual sacrifice of children.
While the law in Uganda addresses child protection, the issue of child sacrifice is not mentioned.
The government, religious leaders, media, teachers and parents are joining together to address this problem.
Communities are educating children about issues such as kidnapping, child sacrifice, abuse and HIV and AIDS in an effort to prevent other children from becoming victims.
No Compassion-assisted children have been affected by the violence.
Compassion staff from the Uganda office and local church partners participated in 40 days of prayer and fasting for those lost in human sacrifice, a campaign called "Weeping for Uganda's Children."
Please pray for the people in Uganda as they struggle with such blatant evil. Pray that God's people will be a clear voice of truth as they stand up against the enemy. Pray for God's protection for all of our children and families.
Compassion Uganda will keep us updated as more information is available.
Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
