Tropical storms have recently hit many parts of Thailand including some northeastern provinces such as Nakorn Ratchasima, Roy Et, Yasothorn and Mahasarakam. Local reports say the storms destroyed more than 300 houses in Roy Et and 200 in Mahasarakam – none are reported to belong to Compassion-assisted children. However, one Compassion-assisted church project suffered damage to its Sunday school room and attached offices. The estimated repair cost is around (U.S) $1,200. Compassion Thailand has granted funds to repair the building.
Staff also report one sponsored child from project TH-415, Faa Huan Child Development Center in Ubol Ratchathani was also affected. The roof of the child's home was swept away in the storm. Staff says he, his brother and mother were injured. All three were admitted to a hospital but have since recovered and returned home. Compassion Thailand is in the process of helping them repair the roof of their home.
Authorities in Thailand are warning people in additional provinces and cities to be prepared for the storms. Those regions include Nan, Phrae, Phitsanulok, Petchaboon, Kalasin, Surin, Uthai Thani, Chanthaburi and Bangkok – all homes to Compassion-assisted church projects.
Please pray for the people of Thailand as they cope with the impact of this weather system that they may be assured of God's love, guidance and grace.
Compassion Thailand will provide an update as information becomes available.
