Update: Earthquake in Peru

Compassion Peru staff report that the affected projects in Lima are back to normal and the circumstances in Ica, Chincha and Pisco are improving as children and families are now receiving adequate supplies.

Since the initial earthquake on August 15, more than 500 aftershocks have been felt throughout Pisco, Ica and Lima. Currently, rescue workers are focusing on recovery operations. Transportation is still difficult and maintaining order among the 5,000 displaced Peruvians is a government priority, as is providing aid to help rebuild destroyed homes.

Compassion Peru will continue to provide updates as the information becomes available. Please continue praying for our staff, our partner churches and for the children and families affected by the disaster.

We will contact you directly if your sponsored child has been affected by the earthquake.
