The 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Peru that struck just south of Lima has devastated the region and left many hospitals and churches in ruin. Reports from Compassion Peru staff confirm that nine Compassion-assisted projects have been affected, though the extent of the damage is unknown at this time. These projects include:
- IEPP Parcona Student Center (PE-343)
- IDDP Parcona (PE-344)
- Manantial (PE-345)
- Amor y Vida Student Center (PE-346)
- Jehová Jiré Student Center (PE-362)
- Luz Divina Student Center (PE-367)
- Emanuel Student Center (PE-369)
- Manantial de Vida Student Center (PE-370)
- Voz de la Esperanza Student Center (PE-371)
The areas surrounding Pisco, Ica and Chincha have reported numerous fatalities and decimated infrastructure and telecommunication availability. The area has been declared an emergency area and a tsunami alert has been activated, forcing many to evacuate the region.
Please continue to pray for the safety and health of the families and children affected by this earthquake, as well as for Compassion staff and rescue workers who are in need of strength and guidance during this difficult time in Peru.
Compassion Peru will provide an update as soon as the information becomes available, and we will contact you if your sponsored child has been directly affected.
