Advisory: Hurricane Lorenzo in Mexico

Residents of Vera Cruz Mexico, already weakened by the effects of Hurricane Dean, are assessing the damage wrought by Hurricane Lorenzo. Lorenzo made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on Sept. 28, flooding the Vera Cruz area and rendering 4,000 families homeless.  The overflow from local rivers has also flooded sanitation systems, contaminating drinking water.

Compassion projects are providing shelter and food to Compassion-assisted families who have lost their homes and individual assessments are being done to determine the needs of the families.

Affected projects include:

  • Youth Vision Student Center (ME-780)
  • A Light to My Path Student Center (ME-781)
  • The Good Samaritan Student Center (ME-782)
  • Todos Somos Vencedores Student Center (ME-788)
  • Los Seguidores de Cristo Student Center (ME-892)

Please pray for Compassion staff, families and children affected by the hurricane.

Compassion Mexico will provide updates as information becomes available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
