Aug. 11, 2008: Tribal war has broken out in the region of Nafri in eastern Indonesia. The fighting is a result of a dispute that occurred on Aug. 1 involving the Wamena tribe. Many woman and children in the region of Nafri are moving in fear of the violence.
- Three Compassion-assisted child development centers are affected:
- Four children who are part of the Nafri tribe have temporarily moved with their families to the Papua New Guinea border to seek safety.
- Because of the location of the violence, Compassion staff cannot currently travel to the child development centers to get updates on the situation.
- So far the war has not affected any daily center activities.
Please pray that God would protect the children at the child development centers in Nafri and that the tribes involved in the fighting would reach a peaceful agreement soon.
