But within the space of about 15 minutes, life was forever changed. A killer tsunami was the result of a massive earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale that hit the coast off Banda Aceh in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. It struck Thailand, India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania. The tidal wave and earthquake have claimed over 155,000 lives. The village of Pallepalem sustained massive damage that has tested the resolve of its citizens. |
