Advisory: H1N1 Virus in Honduras

UPDATE: Aug. 26, 2009 – It has been confirmed that one Compassion-assisted child has contracted the H1N1 virus. The infected child is receiving medical treatment.

The Honduras Country Management Team (CMT) is aware of the child who contracted the virus and team members are staying in contact with the child's church center leaders as well as other nearby church centers.

The child development center the infected child attends temporarily closed for one week as a precaution.

Schools in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula have closed for one week in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

Honduras officials say the highest number of H1N1 cases are concentrated in the cities of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.

Compassion Honduras has about 75 child development centers in Tegucigalpa and 25 in San Pedro Sula.

Please pray for the health of our children, staff and families. Pray that the government leaders and Compassion staff will know best how to address this pandemic and prevent further spread of the disease.
