Advisory: School Closure in Guatemala

UPDATE: July 6, 2009 - As of last week, all 142 Compassion-assisted child development centers in Guatemala have resumed normal activities.

Compassion Guatemala is still encouraging children to wash hands frequently, avoid crowded places, and not share food or cooking utensils.

More than 250 people in Guatemala have been infected with the H1N1 virus but no Compassion-assisted children have contracted the virus.

Please pray for the Lord to protect the health of our children, staff and families. Ask Him to give the Guatemalan government and Compassion Guatemala staff wisdom as they make decisions about how to respond to the disease.

Compassion Guatemala will keep us updated as more information is available.

Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.

June 11, 2009 - The Guatemalan Ministry of Education has suspended all school activities nationwide to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.

All 142 of Compassion's child development centers will be closed beginning June 15 and will resume regular activities on July 1.
