Advisory: H1N1 Virus in El Salvador

UPDATE: August 4, 2009 - The H1N1 virus continues to spread throughout El Salvador, with nearly 600 confirmed cases, 80 suspected cases and nine deaths.

No Compassion-assisted children have contracted the H1N1 virus.

The 39 Compassion-assisted child development centers that temporarily closed following Department of Health recommendations will resume regular activities on Aug. 10.

El Salvador Compassion office functions will also resume on Aug. 10.

Please pray for those children and their families living in the affected area. Pray that the Lord will keep them healthy and protect them.

Compassion El Salvador will keep us updated as more information is available.

UPDATE: July 29, 2009 - The H1N1 virus continues to spread with now nearly 550 confirmed cases, 120 suspected cases and seven deaths.

The 39 Compassion-assisted child development centers in the affected area remain temporarily closed to comply with El Salvador's Department of Health.

No Compassion-assisted children have contracted the H1N1 virus.

Due to the child center closures, the Compassion El Salvador office has also been affected. Functions such as processing child letters and child attendance reports are temporarily on hold.

UPDATE: July 23, 2009 - The H1N1 virus continues to spread throughout El Salvador with more than 450 confirmed cases, more than 100 suspected cases, and six deaths.

The National Education System has once again temporarily suspended classes at all schools in the eastern part of the country for two weeks. Thirty-nine Compassion-assisted child development centers are in the affected area and have also been closed.

No Compassion-assisted children have contracted the H1N1 virus.

Please pray for those children and their families living in the affected area. Pray that the Lord will keep them healthy and protect them.

UPDATE: July 7, 2009 - Throughout El Salvador there are now more than 300 confirmed cases, at least 80 suspected cases and one death from the H1N1 virus.

The National Education System has resumed educational activities. Universities have reopened and primary and secondary schools will reopen on Thursday, July 9.

All 62 Compassion-assisted child development centers that were temporarily closed will also resume regular center activities on Thursday.

June 30, 2009 - More than 200 cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in El Salvador, but no deaths have been reported.

Seventy-six percent of the cases affected people between the ages of 5 and 19 years.

The National Education System has suspended all educational centers in the areas of San Salvador and La Libertad.

Sixty-two Compassion-assisted child development centers in this area are temporarily closed for the next two weeks.

No Compassion-assisted children have contracted the H1N1 virus.
