UPDATE: May 15, 2009 - The Compassion-assisted families who were affected by the earthquakes in western El Salvador are repairing their homes.

Compassion is providing the families with basic supplies including rice, spaghetti, sugar, beans and other staples.

Please continue to pray for those families living in the affected area. Pray that God protects and provides for them, especially those who have lost homes or belongings.

Compassion El Salvador will keep us updated as more information is available.

UPDATE: May 8, 2009 - The earthquakes that recently hit western El Salvador have affected one child development center in Atiquizaya, in Ahuachapan, west of San Salvador.  

11 Compassion-assisted children from ES-857 have reported significant damage to their homes.

Compassion has provided the affected families with basic supplies. Staff from each center continue to conduct family visits to assess the extent of the damage.

May 6, 2009 - Recently, the areas of Ahuachapan and Sonsonate in western El Salvador were hit by a series of small earthquakes.

Compassion has the following six child development centers in the area:

• ES-720
• ES-735
• ES-736
• ES-796
• ES-801
• ES-857

So far, two families from ES-857 have reported significant damage to their homes.

Compassion staff from each child development center is conducting family visits in the affected area to assess the extent of the damage.
