Volcano Tungurahua has recently been spitting ash over several small townships in the Tungurahua province. Last year, the volcano erupted several times with one eruption forcing the relocation of thousands of residents. Since 1999, the volcano has had periods of strong activity combined with phases of relative calm.
The current situation has not affected any Compassion-assisted child development centers. Center staff have received specialized training to help children and families in the event of an eruption.
Compassion Ecuador will provide additional updates if the situation changes.
