International aid is pouring in to Bolivia following weeks of heavy rain that has left the central South American country severely flooded. The downpour has damaged roads, businesses and left thousands homeless. Compassion Bolivia staff report eight cities in particular have been hit hard. They are: Chochabamba, Santa Cruz, La Paz, Potosi, Tarija, Chuquisaca, Beni and Oruro.
Staff report, as of now, two child development centers in Santa Cruz have been affected. They say 178 children who attend Student Center Chane (BO379), located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and 88 children from Student Center Minero (BO557), located in Cochabamba, have damaged homes. Some of the children are also reported to be suffering from skin infections due to illnesses related to the flooding. Many of these affected families have been evacuated and are taking shelter in government-provided tents, where they have been given other emergency items such as food and water.
Compassion Bolivia is coordinating efforts with church project workers in obtaining specific details about the affected families and will provide an update as information becomes available.
Please pray for the safety of all our Compassion family in Bolivia as they deal with the destruction and damage before them.
Compassion International will contact you if your sponsored child has been affected.
