Compassion's commitment to you and your sponsored child

Concern for children is the cornerstone on which Compassion International's ministry has been built. We are opposed to all forms of child abuse and exploitation and will do everything within our power to ensure that no harm comes to any child registered in our program. We believe the vast majority of our sponsors and donors share these values. Regrettably, it is possible that some people might seek to use Compassion's child sponsorship program for wrong motives.

Therefore, we offer the following guidelines during your visit.

  1. A Compassion representative will accompany visitors at all times during an individual visit.
  2. A visitor may go to a child's home for a meal or a visit, if invited, and a Compassion representative accompanies them.
  3. Visitors may not stay overnight with children, whether in a staff member's home or elsewhere.
  4. Visitors may not ask for or accept accommodations at the project or with the family of the sponsored child.
  5. Visitors should show respect to the children they meet. They should avoid flirting, unwelcome flattery, or making suggestive comments.
  6. Visitors will be educated on how to be culturally sensitive in expressing affection to their sponsored child.
  7. Visitors may not give any personal contact information to their sponsored child and will not ask or record the sponsored child's contact information.

These guidelines are intended to protect children in Compassion child development centers, as well as Compassion sponsors, from abuse and wrongful allegations of abuse. For everyone's protection, it is important that sponsors avoid even the appearance of inappropriate conduct. As such, they should be concerned about perception, as well as appearance, in their relationships with minors and children.
