Mukarubayiza lives with her mother. Her mother is sometimes employed as a farmer. Mukarubayiza works at home carrying water, gathering firewood and caring for children.

As part of Compassion's ministry, Mukarubayiza participates in church activities and choir. She is also in primary school where her performance is average. Singing, playing house and jumping rope are her favorite activities.
