Reena lives with her father and her mother. Her father is sometimes employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home. Reena works at home carrying water, gathering firewood and washing clothes. There are 2 children in the family.
Singing, walking and listening to music are Reena's favorite activities. In vocational training her performance is average and she also regularly attends church activities, Bible class and Vacation Bible School.

Reena lives in the hillside community of Uppada Village, home to approximately 9,800 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, brick walls and tile roofs. The primary ethnic group is Adi Dravida (Malayali) and the most commonly spoken language is Malayalam.
The regional diet consists of beans, bananas, fish, chicken, beef, bread, potatoes and rice. Common health problems in this area include dengue, leptospirosis (infectious disease) and viral infections. Most adults in Uppada Village work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $60 per month. This community needs improved sanitation, vocational training and income-supplementing programs.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Malabar Marthoma Child Development Center to provide Reena with Bible teaching, retreats, medical checkups, vaccinations, nutritious food, health and hygiene education, field trips, recreational activities, tuition, academic support, library use, English classes and vocational skills training. The center staff will also provide meetings, skills training and literacy classes for the parents or guardians of Reena.
