Karuppannan lives with his father and his mother. At home, duties include carrying water, gathering firewood and buying or selling in the market. His father is sometimes employed as a laborer and his mother is sometimes employed as a laborer. There are 4 children in the family.
Soccer, volleyball and walking are Karuppannan's favorite activities. In high school his performance is average and he also regularly attends church activities, Bible class and Vacation Bible School.

Karuppannan lives in the hillside community of Vattavada, home to approximately 6,500 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, adobe walls and tin roofs. The primary ethnic groups are Malayalis and the most commonly spoken language is Malayalam.
The regional diet consists of beans, fish, potatoes and rice. Common health problems in this area include malnutrition, dysentery and bronchitis. Most adults in Vattavada work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $80 per month. This community has water and medical facilities but needs better roads and vocational training centers.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Vattavada Child Development Center to provide Karuppannan with Bible teaching, hygiene education, nutrition supplements, field trips, sports and games, music courses, tutoring and handicraft classes. The center staff will also provide monthly meetings, medical checkups and child abuse prevention education for the parents or guardians of Karuppannan.
