Ashwini lives with her father and her mother. Her father is sometimes employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home. Ashwini works at home carrying water, buying or selling in the market and washing clothes. There are 3 children in the family.
As part of Compassion's ministry, Ashwini participates in church activities, Bible class and choir. She is also in college where her performance is above average. Art, walking and listening to music are her favorite activities.

Ashwini lives in the mountainous community of Kamaraj Nagar, home to approximately 6,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, mud walls and thatched roofs. The primary ethnic group is Dravidian and the most commonly spoken language is Tamil.
The regional diet consists of beef and rice. Common health problems in this area include fevers, stomachaches, headaches, anemia and malnutrition. Most adults in Kamaraj Nagar work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $56 per month. The community needs vocational training, income-generating activities and alcohol abuse prevention programs.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Chengalpattu Child Development Center to provide Ashwini with Bible studies, medical checkups, hygiene supplies, nutritious meals, sports, leadership training programs, school fees, uniforms and school supplies. The center staff will also provide meetings for the parents or guardians of Ashwini.
