Kusuma lives with her father and her mother. She is responsible for gathering firewood, buying or selling in the market and gardening. Her father is sometimes employed and her mother is sometimes employed as a laborer. There are 4 children in the family.
As part of Compassion's ministry, Kusuma participates in church activities, Bible class and Vacation Bible School. She is also in college where her performance is average. Singing, art and playing ball games are her favorite activities.

Kusuma lives on the plains of Veeranahalli, home to approximately 15,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and tile roofs. The primary ethnic group is Kannadigas and the most commonly spoken language is Kannada.
The regional diet consists of ragi (grain), maize, beans, bananas, chicken, fish, rice, goat and potatoes. Common health problems in this area include colds, coughs, viral fevers, skin infections and gastrointestinal disorders. Most adults in Veeranahalli work as laborers and earn the equivalent of $111 per month. This community needs potable water, awareness on the importance of education and employment opportunities.
Your sponsorship allows the staff of Veeranahalli Child Development Center to provide Kusuma with Bible teaching, medical and dental checkups, nutritious food, health education, sports and games, tuition, educational materials and uniforms. The center staff will also provide meetings, skills training and health education for the parents or guardians of Kusuma.

The country now has a federal republic, and Pratibha Patil was elected the first female president of India in 2007.
India's diverse economy encompasses traditional village farming, modern agriculture, handicrafts, a wide range of modern industries, and a multitude of services.
